SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) – Maior prêmio do teatro americano, o Tony Awards chega à 78ª edição na noite deste domingo (8) laureando os melhores da Broadway. A cerimônia de premiação começa às 21h do horário de Brasília e será transmitida ao vivo, diretamente do Radio City Music Hall, em Nova York, pelo canal pago Films & Arts.

Entre os principais indicados da noite estão grandes estrelas das telas, como George Clooney, que concorre em melhor ator de peça, por “Good Night and Good Luck”. Em melhor atriz de peça, a disputa é acirrada e tem nomes como Sarah Snook, Sadie Sink e Mia Farrow.

Outro destaque é Audra McDonald, que pode ampliar seu recorde de atriz mais premiada do Tony. Ela já tem seis estatuetas e concorre de novo em melhor atriz de musical, pelo revival de “Gypsy”, clássico americano de Jule Styne e Stephen Sondheim.

Entre os espetáculos que concorrem em melhor musical estão “Buena Vista Social Club”, “Dead Outlaw”, “Death Becomes Her”, “Maybe Happy Ending” e “Operation Mincemeat”. Na ala de peças estão “English”, “The Hills of California”, “John Proctor Is the Villain”, “Oh, Mary!” e “Purpose”.
